TEQUILA HORNS
The horn is part of the history of Tequila and is that the jimadores when going out to the fields for their work day carried a horn hanging around their neck to “give their horse a drink” this tool was in turn used to pour a little bit of tequila that was enjoyed in small sips to last the day’s work. Few know the story but it is the source of inspiration for all the little horses that are used in Mexico and the world and are made with techniques ranging from blown glass to clay and stone.
There is a process to clean and polish the horn and Chon’s family is experts at that. They receive the horn and soak it so that the pure shell remains, they begin to carve it with tools to remove any excess and leave it completely clean. It is cut so that it is the desired size and it begins to be polished to give it shine and have a beautiful finish.
There are different sizes and it goes without saying that there will never be two alike.
The piece includes the wooden or metal base. Its use is functional for tequila but can also be used as decoration.
LIMITATION
- The colors are natural colors, you cannot control the color and tone of the horn.
- There cannot be two exact pairs, exact measurements or exact shapes.
- You cannot control the exact capacity of the horn.
TREATMENT
- The horn must be cured with the tequila or mezcal of choice. The liquid should be left to rest in the horn for a whole day.
- The horn is then washed normally, it is recommended not to put it in the dishwasher.
