who we are

We dedicate ourselves to generate fair trade relations between traditional workshops and clients that seek to buy responsibly sourced Mexican handicrafts.

Our alliances

There are more than 7.5 million traditional artisans in Mexico but, although the handicraft market has been growing fast for the last decade, this shows very little in the artisans’ income: 50% of traditional artisans in Mexico live in poverty. Therefore, our urgency to build strong alliances between leader artisans, organizations and compromised clients.

For 9 years we have worked with more than 200 traditional artisans in 6 states doing more than 35 different traditional techniques.

We encourage fair trade. We support the strengthening of traditional handicraft workshops by sharing good practices and we share knowledge about Mexican handicrafts.

60% of all Tekiti’s incomes go directly to the traditional artisans.

For what we stand

1. FAIR PAYMENT

We work hand on hand with the artisans to help them map their costs, analyze their production times and set a fair price to their piece. These enables us to have long term relationships and create projects that bring development and business growth to these

2. NO CHILD LABOUR NO FORCED LABOUR

We make sure that no child is envolved in the elaboration process. Some workshops are inside the houses of the artisans so children may be around depending on the technique. It is part of the tradition that children learn the process at a young age, they play with the raw material and learn from their parents. Nevertheless we make sure that no piece of our production ir is done by children, we make sure they are going to school, they are being taken care of and we give workshops and talks with the artisans about this subject. We also sign

3. GOOD WORKING CONDITIONS

We analyze the conditions the artisans are working in and do a diagnose. If safety equipment is not being used, we supply this equipment like: boots, goggles, gloves, masks, etc… We share best practices, help them implement modifications in their workspace and make a plan with them in order to implement this changes in a period of time when needed. We supply them with a first-aid kit.
