CHAIN STITCH EMBROIDERY

San Juan Guichicovi, Oaxaca.

The traditional chain embroidery is done by the Cruz family in San Juan Guichicovi. The bright colors adorn everyday clothing and traditional festivals. With the help of a sewing machine, the colors are selected and the outline of the pieces is decorated, the colors overlap each other, creating beautiful patterns. The simple decoration has the chain a little separated from each other. The more filled and dense the design, the more complicated it is to control the machine, the design and the quality.

Bags, placemats and table runners are some of the pieces made with this technique.
